Traditionally, Ladakh has used dry, composting toilets instead of flush toilets. This created organic manure for the fields and minimised water usage in an area with scarce rain. Modernity phased out the dry toilet until Sonam Wangchuk and his teams at HIAL and SECMOL decided to bring them back.
